TDA Business Advisor helps business with growth strategy


ER Response & Security Ltd was established in 2015 and has since enjoyed consistent and substantial growth. Rob and Jo Osborne, the Directors the company, have in excess of 18 years experience in the security industry, incorporating both working for a Local Authority and in the Private Sector.

The Challenge

The company’s mission is to become the leading provider of security services in the South West by establishing mutual respect, honesty and diligence, while developing key working relationships with their customers, partners and staff.

Rob Osborne said: “Security services are not the same for every customer, therefore, we do not offer a generic, pre-packaged service. We create security services whilst working closely with the customers and partners to develop the programme that most fits their individual needs.”

To achieve this, the company sought Business Advice from TDA through 1:1 support and mentoring to develop their business plan, improve their online presence and expand their reach across the South West.

The Solution

Rob’s extensive knowledge across a broad spectrum of security services meant that he is able to provide a valuable insight when assessing the client’s needs, contributing to their success.

Rob continued: “As a team we share a sense of purpose and pride in the work we do. We value both customer and employee feedback as we are always seeking to improve and excel. Building this into our business model has been integral to our growth, and the support from TDA helped facilitate this.”

With office at Lymington Road Business Centre the company has been able to meet the growing demands of the business and has employed seven new staff since it was established. This has giving them a huge increase in momentum and the belief that they can achieve their mission.

The Results

Despite being a relatively new company, ER Response & Security Ltd has been awarded Approved Contractor Status. This makes them one a handful of companies in the South West who is recognised by the Security Industry Authority as providing private security service of the highest quality in line with British Standards.

Jo Osborne said: “Getting Approved Contractor Status was a great investment of our time and money as it enables us to demonstrate our commitment to our customers and employees and set us apart from other providers.”

“Throughout the 18 months we have been trading, we have benefited from the input of our TDA Business Advisor. Initially she helped us strengthen our Business Plan and gave us the confidence that we were on the right track. We have continued to have regular meetings, which have resulted in us understanding how we could develop online marketing for our business and place it in our Marketing plan. We now have strategies to help us continue to grow our business. Having ongoing access to a Business Advisor we have been able to build up a working relationship, having someone we can approach to support us is a real benefit for our business.”

The company aims to take on more employees this year and consider apprenticeship opportunities within the business.
